Upon an intimate visit with the groom's mother on their wedding day, I heard her say "Don't Forget Me". The groom took his mother in his arms and spoke quietly to her. I remember hearing the sweetness in her voice and the softness in his. "I will Never. Ever. Ever. Forget You".

Cynthia and James AE0043.jpgI do. I really do! During this split second frame the Groom was saying his vows and repeated himself out of sheer nerves. The bride, touching his face, smiled and giggled and they both shared some tension breaking laughter.

If I have the space available during the bride and groom vows, I love to shoot at this angle. It allows me to focus on their faces and capture these amazing expressions. Last year, I remember quite clearly, a priest actually stopped the service to see 'where the photographer was'. He was quite orderly and pointed to me where I should stand. I was so upset that he disrupted the ceremony and the chance to photograph a natural expressed moment, that I refused to stand center of the isle like he asked.  Thank goodness my clients trust me enough to make my own decisions or I wouldn't get shots like this!

It is important to me to be aware of what is going on around me at all times. Part of being a good photojournalist and wedding photographer is to understand emotion. It helps that I am an emotional person, and what I see happen behind the lens is a result of where my heart goes to when a movement is made. In this image here, the bride is pinning a poppy on her uncle, in memory of her grandfather. They frame the picture, though the real story is who I am focusing on - the grandmother. You see, we only live once and in this moment, someone is not here to live it with the family. Emotions are high at every wedding for many different reasons. I find it rewarding as a photojournalist to capture these moments, and when I do, I know that I have served my clients well with truth to their wedding day story illustrating dynamic moments to surface the raw emotion of that day.
